Gold Plated/Gold Vermeil Jewelry
Gold plated jewelry is a very light layer of gold - 0.05% actual gold or less - on top of a base metal (usually brass or copper). The thin layer of gold is plated onto the base metal to create gold plated jewelry.
Gold vermeil is a high-quality form of gold plating in which a thick layer of gold (this must be more than 2.5 microns and is usually between 14k – 22k gold) is coated upon sterling silver.
But there's an important difference between the two: gold vermeil is of much higher quality than regular gold plating, ensuring your jewelry is made to last. Gold vermeil is of a higher quality than gold-plated jewelry. Gold vermeil and gold-plated jewelry are often compared, as they are quite similar.
